INCLUSION

Prince Henry’s received the Chartermark for Inclusion in December 2003.
We are the first North Leeds High school to receive this prestigious award.  Our Inclusion Chartermark was revalidated in December 2006.

The OFSTED inspection in September 2004 reaffirmed the continued overall effectiveness of the Inclusion and Special Educational Needs policy and practice within the school. Again Inclusion and SEN practice have been named and placed as one of the school’s strengths.

“There is a clear focus on achievement for all groups: the school is very highly inclusive.”

“The broad curriculum caters effectively for the aptitudes and aspirations of the students; inclusion is excellent.”

“The school’s very good provision for students with special educational needs results in those students achieving as well as other students. Individual students with statements of special educational need indicating severe or complex learning difficulties all make good progress and some achieve well beyond what might be expected of them.”

This positive feedback from OFSTED and the excellent overall rating received is indeed an accolade to students, staff, parents and carers.

The curriculum support for SEN students continues. The Reading Club members and their paired reading Year 12 Mentors work hard to improve students’ literacy acquisition. 50 students and 78 mentors work alongside the Inclusion Manager and 13 Teaching Assistant staff daily.
35 students with Statements of Educational Need relating to learning, behavioural and medical problems receive enhanced provision and individual attention. 120 students who have Individual Education Plans receive support from subject teachers, form tutors, year heads, year managers and parents in reaching their targets.

The Inclusion team of 20 staff continue to receive professional development and training.

Further adaptations to the existing buildings and the new school Science block have and will improve access for all.

All staff who contribute to the continued success of the school’s excellent reputation for Inclusion have much to celebrate.
