KS4 COURSE OVERVIEW

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT: MR GREEN

Subject Content

Students will embark upon a course, which, from the onset, will teach them a range of skills and approaches to themes. In Year 10 the student will have experience of

1. PAINTING, watercolour and acrylics
2. DRAWING, pencil, oil pastel, chalks, charcoal, etc.
3. CLAYWORK, relief and 3D
4. PRINTING, black & white & colour linoleum printing
5. CONSTRUCTION, mixed media, card etc.

The aim of the course is to develop not only the skills of the individual, but also to encourage imaginative and self-motivated ideas and projects. Individuality will be celebrated. There will be a day art trip in Year 10 (Yorkshire Sculpture Park or Leeds Art Gallery) that will be used as a starting point for a project back in school.

Scheme of Assessment

The examination at the end of Year 11 will consist of a month long preparation period leading to a two full day (10 hour) piece of art work of the student’s own choice – this will count as 40% of their final GCSE grade, the other 60% will be a portfolio of coursework (generally three projects) from Year 10 and 11.

Yr 11 will be predominately pupil orientated work based around various themes; and the student will be expected to develop their research skills.

We would welcome any student in Year 9 onto this course who is willing to have a creative go! If you need more information, talk to your Art teacher.
