Year 10/11 Enterprise Initiatives at PHGS

In June fifty Year10 students got the chance to be involved in an Enterprise Day organised by the Business Department in conjunction with 'Business Dynamics'. The day was aimed at developing an understanding and awareness of enterprise skills needed for working life. The day itself was an enjoyable and learning experience that involved a series of activities and presentations from various guest speakers about the world of business and work. Students completed evaluation forms after the event and the overwhelming response was very positive. As a result it is the aim of the department to continue to run this event for the foreseeable future.

Year11 Work-Related Learning

In October, Year11 Work-Related Learning students went on to create a successful ‘online business directory’ and ‘online events guide’ for the local community of Otley.

This should prove to be a very useful online directory for the local community in Otley. If you would like to see the site follow the link: http://www.localbiz.co.uk/ or http://www.localbiz.co.uk/theproject/pdf/otley%20challenge%20case%20study.pdf to see exactly what they did and what they achieved.

Well done to all students involved!

Work-Related Learning students for 2005 will aim to carry on with the successful online business directory and events guide by developing its content and targeting more businesses in Otley that would benefit from being on the site.

If you would like a chance to advertise your business free of charge contact Mr. Mordue at PHGS or visit the site to see its development:

GCSE Business Students:

In November 2005, ten GCSE gifted and talented students got the chance to take part in an Aimhigher event organised by Leeds Education in conjunction with Coca-Cola Enterprises at South Leeds Business Centre. The event pitted many G&T students from Leeds schools against each other in a superb marketing activity.  The event involved students working as a complete team, which had to develop a drink product for a certain target audience.  Students had to design a product, create an advertising campaign and work out all of the associated costs of production and distribution. All groups then presented their marketing campaigns to an audience of 100.
