Sixth-Form Enterprise

2004/5

One Young Enterprise team completed the duration for 2004/5. They were able to successfully juggle AS studies and a mini-enterprise. Their business encompassed making x-mas gifts for young adults. These proved to be great success at sixth-form open evening. The team also organised a school talent competition, which also proved popular and very importantly, profitable! Well done to all students involved.

2003/4

In October, the Year 12 pupils received their first introduction to Business through participating in the ‘Young Enterprise’ initiative within PHGS. I would like to thank Miss Ewen for her help with one team, which went on to form a successful business that involved them making an educational game for school children.  The other team guided by Mr. Mordue went on to create a successful business directory website for the local community. This was so successful that a group of Year11 work related learning students intend to carry on from where they left off and add more businesses to the site.  This should prove to be a very useful online directory for the local community in Otley. If you would like to see the site follow the link: http://www.localbiz.co.uk/ or http://www.localbiz.co.uk/theproject/pdf/otley%20challenge%20case%20study.pdf to see exactly what they did and what they achieved.

Economics and Business A-Level students got the chance to spend a University 'taster' day at Leeds University, where they were able to get a feel for university life and the many Business & Economics degrees on offer.  The group participated in an inter-school marketing exercise when they were there and managed to beat the other schools for the first prize.

As we start the September 2004 term, the Business Studies Department is continuing to forge links with local and national business organisations in an attempt to gather useful research about their organisations.
