Italian and Polish teachers visit Prince Henry's

October 2005

In October 2005 two teachers from our partner school in Poland, and four from our partner school in Italy, made a three-day visit to Prince Henry's to launch our new Comenius Project.

The visit followed a successful application by Moncef Fakhfakh, International Co-ordinator, for funding from the European Union to allow our three schools to work together on a curriculum project on the theme of folklore and superstition.

Comenius Projects enable schools from at least three European countries to work together on a topic of interest. As part of the programme a group of eleven Year 12 from Prince Henry's will travel to Altamura, Italy, to take part in a European performance week in May 2006. This follows January's Enhanced Curriculum Day when all students in Years 7 - 12 looked at the subject of superstition, as part of our project which aims to compare and contrast the folklore of Italy, Poland and Great Britain.

During their visit our six guests, hosted by Mr Fakhfakh, spent time in school attending lessons and speaking to staff and students, as well as visiting the sights of Yorkshire. One highlight was an assembly for Year 12 and 13 students led by the Headteacher of our Italian partner school, Preside Bianca Tragni, which was delivered entirely in Italian!
