  • To understand and appreciate the similarities and differences between their own daily experience and that of their French counterparts.
  • To appreciate aspects of French history and culture.
  • To improve listening and speaking skills in French.

Eight AS students of French travelled to Leeds’ twin city of Lille to take part in a new exchange with our partner school, Lycée Gaston Berger. During the six-day trip, organised by Mr Cook, students stayed in their partner’s home. In addition to visiting the lycée, the programme included trips to Bruges and Paris.

The French group returned to Otley just a few days later, attending lessons in school and visiting York, the National Coal Mining Museum, Harewood House and Leeds.

“I feel that it gave me a valuable insight into another country and way of life and proved a very worthwhile experience. By staying with a French family, all students involved were able to experience an authentic French lifestyle and of course were able to greatly put into practice and improve their French language skills. For me, and I’m sure many others, this was a vital part of the visit, as being able to actively practise our language skills will give us a great advantage during our A-Level course. 

 

Spending the weekend with our host families gave us the chance to live a genuine French lifestyle, and identify similarities and differences between a French and British lifestyle.
