CHINESE PLAY: "THE DUTIFUL DAUGHTER"

Following its world première at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, this co-production with the Sichuan People’s Theatre and Chinese Crackers toured a small number of Leeds high schools in June and July 2005.

Based on the tale of Pericles, this was a physical and visual play performed in both English and Mandarin Chinese, incorporating live music, puppetry and projections. Themes explored included truth, power and class.

As well as enthralling some 400 students in Years 7 and 8, the four performances of the play at Prince Henry’s also attracted over 150 Year 6 pupils from many of our local primary schools: All Saints C of E Primary, Bramhope Primary, Pool-in-Wharfedale C of E Primary, St Joseph’s RC Primary, Westgate Primary and Whartons Primary.
