SCHOOL CHARITY 2005

As part of our special emphasis on furthering global links in 2005 we decided that the focus for our fundraising efforts for the year should be two of our partner schools: La Dalia in Nicaragua and Earlington Secondary School in South Africa.

In a spirit of “partnership” rather than “charity”, we decided to raise money to provide curriculum materials for our friends in these schools, so that they could develop further the project work we have already started with them.

In other words, we know that we have a lot to learn from them about what it is like to be a teenager growing up in those parts of the world. More specifically, through Geography and other subjects, Prince Henry’s students have been exchanging views and experiences on a wide range of topics, such as Education and Social Justice. By buying equipment for them, such as books and musical instruments, we hope to be able to continue to learn together.

Fundraising efforts have been led by Year 7 students, who organised a Charity Fair in the Spring Term. Other events have included non-uniform days and a lunchtime “Salsa Extravaganza”, which was part of the Latin American themed International Day in July 2005.
