MAKE POVERTY HISTORY

In the Summer term 2005 our students in Years 7, 8 and 9 supported the “Send my friend to school” campaign, which is part of the wider “Make Poverty History” movement.

Organised by the Global Campaign for Education, “Send my friend to school” is an initiative encouraging children from around the world to make a paper “buddy” to send to leaders of the G8 countries to put pressure on them to prioritise the needs of the 100 million children worldwide who do not receive an education.

The aim was to produce a million buddies across the globe. In fact, over three million were produced, with over 100,000 being delivered to the G8 summit in Gleneagles in July 2005!

At Prince Henry’s some 400 hundred paper buddies were produced as part of the Geography curriculum. Before being sent off they made an impressive colourful display in the school’s Information Library, which Year 7 students showed to visitors from the “Positively Global” Conference in June 2005.
