PARTNERSHIP:

Curriculum project

  • Year 11 Spanish Full Course students were matched up with a student from Instituto López Neyra in January 2006. English and Spanish students wrote a letter of introduction to their partner, and each class then produced a video featuring all students involved in the project. Subsequent pieces of work have included e-mails with a questionnaire on the subject of school, and a Powerpoint presentation on the local area.

Visiting teacher

  • In March 2006 teacher Gabriel Sánchez Bellón from Instituto López Neyra spent four weeks shadowing the work of our History and Geography departments. Gabriel is Head of Studies at López Neyra, and received a grant from the Andalusian Government to spend time at Prince Henry's improving his English and learning about the methodology used in teaching these subjects in England.

Year 11 Study trip to Córdoba

  • In April 2006 a group of 22 Year 11 students from Prince Henry's spent six days in Córdoba as part of an intensive revision programme ahead of their GCSE Speaking Test. During the visit our students finally had the opportunity to meet their Spanish partner, with whom they had been corresponding since the start of the year. The programme included a joint excursion to the Cuevas de los Murciélagos at Zuheros, and to the town of Priego de Córdoba. Staff and students from López Neyra also welcomed us to their school, treating us to a Sevillanas dance show and to a buffet of local specialities which they had prepared for us, such as flamenquín and tortilla española.
