PARTNERSHIP:

Student exchange

  • September 2004 – visit to Prince Henry’s by 22 students from Collège Paul Eluard. Excursions to York, Haworth and the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, Bradford. Joint bowling trip.

  • February 2005 – visit to Montereau by 23 students from Prince Henry’s. Excursions to Provins, Fontainebleau, Versailles and Paris.

BACKGROUND:

Montereau is the long-established twin town of Otley. Prince
Henry’s was delighted to re-establish contact with one of the town’s schools in 2004, in order to support this important civic link.

PARTNERSHIP:

Student exchange

  • June 2005 – exchange visit by eight Year 12 students to Lille. Excursions to Bruges and Paris.

  • June 2005 – return exchange visit to Otley by nine students from Lycée Gaston Berger. Visits to the National Coal Mining Museum, Leeds and York.

Student Visit:

  • July 2004 – visit by students from Lycée Gaston Berger to Prince Henry’s as part of the Leeds Breeze Festival. The French students joined Prince Henry’s Year 12 students in lessons and on trips to York, Bradford and Saltaire.

BACKGROUND:

Lille is one of the well-established partner cities of Leeds. Prince Henry’s is delighted to support this important civic link by establishing an exchange with Lycée Gaston Berger.

Teacher Planning Visits

  • January 2005 – introductory meeting between Mr Lillington and staff from Lycée Jean Jaurès at a special conference in London to establish the partnership.

  • June 2005 – visit by Mrs Clarke to Lycée Jean Jaurès to plan the one-year curriculum project in detail.

Joint Curriculm Project:

  • Year 11 Fast track French students and students from the Section Européene – seconde class are working on a joint project throughout 2005/2006 on the subject of “Les médias”. This involves exchanging information on magazines, television, films and music, through e-mail, video conferencing and exchanges of presentations and materials.

BACKGROUND:

The partnership with Lycée Jean Jaurès was established through the Specialist Schools Trust’s “LC-SE” project. This aims to pair up Specialist Language Colleges in England with a French school with a Section Européene (bilingual section).

Curriculum project

  • Both schools worked together on the "Positively Global” project and “Project Snapshot”, with students exchanging photos and views on a range of different topics (Geography).

  • Exchange of photo diaries of a typical day in French/English with less able students.
