VISIT BY CHINESE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENTS

As part of a two-week course at the University of Leeds, a group of 18 Vice-Chancellors and Presidents of universities from across China visited Prince Henry’s to find out about secondary education in this country.

During the half-day visit the group learned about the school’s international links from Chris Lillington (Language College Director), and about the role of a Headteacher in the UK from Liz Armstrong (Assistant Headteacher). In groups of three the 18 visitors were then given a guided tour of the school by pairs of Year 7 students who answered questions about their life as British school children.

For the Year 7 students involved this was a special opportunity to present their school to a group of international visitors, which they did with pride and enthusiasm. Given that these students had not yet started their Mandarin Chinese “taster” course, for many of them this was also their first experience of having a conversation with a Chinese person

Amy Wise was one of the students who gave the visitors a tour of the school:

“I thought that showing the Chinese guests around the school was a great opportunity to learn about their culture. I learnt some of the simple words in Chinese too. Before I heard that I had been chosen to show them around I did not know anything about China.”
