VISIT BY THE MAYOR OF HANGZHOU

In April 2005 we were honoured to welcome a delegation of special visitors from Leeds’ partner Chinese city of Hangzhou, as part of their three-day civic visit to Leeds. The group of over a dozen dignitaries was led by the Mayor of Hangzhou. They came to Prince Henry’s as the only school in the city where Mandarin Chinese is taught to all students, and because of our unique partnership with Hangzhou’s Xuejun High School

During their visit to the school they heard from Miss Yen (Chinese teacher) about our Chinese curriculum, and from Chris Lillington (Language College Director) about our prized relationship with Xuejun High School. Two KS4 students then did a presentation of their involvement in the Chinese Exchange to Hangzhou in October 2004

The highlight of the visit, however, was a very special moment when our guests joined a Year 8 Mandarin Chinese lesson to interact with students. After a spontaneous greeting of Ni hao, our students moved around the classroom introducing themselves to the guests and trying to find out some basic information about them – all in Chinese!
