"POSITIVELY GLOBAL" CONFERENCE

In June 2005 we were delighted to be selected to host a visit as part of the programme of the five-day “Positively Global” Conference, which had brought to Leeds delegates from the six countries involved in the Positively Global Project: France, Germany, Nicaragua, Senegal, South Africa and the UK.

This conference followed similar events held in Lille, France in 2003, and in Durban, South Africa in September 2004. Both of these conferences were attended by June Brighouse (International Co-ordinator: North-South links) who played a key role in developing curriculum materials for the project, working with the Leeds Development Education Centre.

Nine delegates from the conference visited Prince Henry’s, where they attended lessons in Geography and Modern Foreign Languages, and had a guided tour of the school with Year 7 students. Finally they were treated to traditional British cooking in Henry’s Diner!

The Year 7 student guides were very excited at the chance to show their school to visitors from so many different countries. They also took the opportunity to show off our display of “buddies” in the Information Library, produced as part of the Make Poverty Historycampaign.
