There are many and varied opportunities to participate in musical ensembles at Prince Henry’s.

Take a look at our current weekly rehearsal timetable, which can be accessed from here:

  • Concert Band

  • Junior Band
  • Junior Choir

In addition, the school produces a high quality musical each year. Take a look at some of our photographs using the link below:

In 2005, we staged ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ for 5 nights, which was a sell-out for most performances. Students received high acclaim for their musical and dramatic efforts in this.

In 2006, we staged Les Miserables: Schools Edition which was a total sell-out and won the Wharfedale festival chairman's Award 2006.

In 2007 our show was 'Grease' (again, a sell out) and this year we are following it with 'Back to the 80's'.

Our Concert Band, PHOJO and Senior Choir have all toured in France and Italy.

Many of our ensembles perform at community events, such as the Otley Carnival and the Poole Feast, as well as performing at functions like the school’s art exhibitions, etc. We have also collaborated with other local groups, like Otley Brass Band.

We stage around 4 or 5 concerts per year, both at school and at local venues, churches, etc. Students have many opportunities to perform in public and we have also used music as a means to raise money for charity on several occasions (e. g.: the Elgar-Thon’).

Workshops are arranged regularly for those that participate in ensembles, as well as GCSE and A level musicians. Examples include:

  • Opera North workshops
  • Samba workshops
  • African drumming workshops

Another benefit of playing in a PHGS ensemble is the visits. Students are often rewarded with trips to the theatre and shows.

Some of our ensembles have also participated in the Wharfedale Festival and done us proud!

If you would like to hire any of our ensembles or have a concert proposal, telephone the school on 01943 463524 and ask for Mrs. Greenwood (Head of Music).
