  • NEW PRIZE ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO SOAR

    The first recipient of a prestigious prize will be collecting their award at Prince Henry’s Celebration Evening this Thursday. Charlotte Borwell will receive the Watson Bainbridge prize, donated by John Marshall, who attended Prince Henry’s Grammar School between 1959 and 1966. The prize is given in recognition of the teaching and wise advice that Mr Watson (Geography teacher) and Mr Bainbridge (Economics teacher) gave John whilst he was in the Sixth Form.

  • PHGS BARBARIANS VS OTLEY RUFC - BOXING DAY

    Otley RUFC are hosting a Prince Henry’s Grammar School Barbarians vs Otley match at Cross Green on Boxing Day, with the support of Otliensians RUFC. Everyone is welcome for what should be an entertaining game on and off the pitch. The PHGS Barbarians side of ex-students and staff is being coached by the one and only ex-PHGS legend Pete Latham, MBE.

    Our Year 7 students are enjoying a cultural pen pal exchange with students from a school in South Eastern Italy. Year 7 students have made Christmas postcards to send to the children of class One and Class Two at Tommasso Del Bene Middle School in Maruggio, a small town in the Apulia region of Southern Italy.

  • UK'S DEFENCE MEDICAL SERVICES DIRECTOR INSPIRES STUDENTS

    Brigadier Timothy Hodgetts CBE, the Medical Director of the UK’s Defence Medical Services inspired Year 8 and our aspiring Sixth Form Medics, when he visited for a morning recently. The students were enthralled, as the Bridgadier, who is responsible for the creation of emergency medical care centres in war and revolutionising the early care of combat injuries, among many other medical innovations, took them through his career.

    Students from 15 high schools across Leeds and the Wharfe Valley flocked to the Prince Henry’s Grammar School Sixth Form Open Evening. Young people and their Parents and Carers enjoyed a welcome from Headteacher Janet Sheriff and Head of Sixth Form Claire Willis and speeches from the Head Boy and Head Girl, before sampling taster lessons in A Level and BTEC subjects across the curriculum.

    Following our best ever A level results, there is excellent news regarding Prince Henry’s results at KS 4 as 70% of our students secured 5A*- C including English and Maths and in addition the analysis of examination results once again indicates that Prince Henry’s students have made progress significantly above the national – especially in English and Maths.
