FOOD BANK INITIATIVE IS A GREAT SUCCESS

Back with a positive force for good, a group of Sixth Form students at Prince Henry’s have organised their annual food bank donation appeal. Students across year 12 and 13 were encouraged to bring donations to their forms for Otley Foodbank throughout December, with a prize up for grabs for the form group with the most donations.

The donations are going to Otley Food Bank, which provides emergency essential supplies to people and families who need support. They appealed for regular things required for the foodbank, such as tinned vegetables, coffee, sugar and toiletries, as well as seasonal goods to pursue Christmas spirit.

This was liaised by a group of Sixth Form students studying the ASDAN qualification, an additional a level qualification based around the development of personal, social and employability skills.

Sixth Form student Olivia Driver said ‘My ASDAN class had the amazing opportunity to help out our local community food bank this Christmas by encouraging the sixth form students to donate food. After the gruelling few years that everyone had we thought that it would be a great idea to assist people that might need an extra helping hand during the Christmas season. We have enjoyed every moment of the experience and were so excited about all the donations the sixth form students gave, and we hope to be able to do this again in the future.’

“We are really grateful to all our Sixth Form students and staff, who have brought in so many donations for the Otley Food Bank. The organising group have done brilliantly – making sure their fellow students and the staff know how to take part and what, in particular, the Otley Food Bank need in their donation boxes at this time of year. The Christmas Food Bank Project is a part of the ASDAN Level 3 in Personal Effectiveness which allows young people to build the skills they will need as they prepare for future study or work. It is also part of our commitment to our local community, working with local organisations to be part of that community.” said Mrs Robinson-Junni, Student Leadership and Post-16 Manager.
