ACCIDENTS & SICKNESS AT SCHOOL

Emergency First Aid cover only is provided in school. The School has trained First Aiders who will deal with illnesses and accidents that happen during school time. Should hospital treatment be necessary and an ambulance called Parent/Carers will be contacted so that they may accompany their child to the hospital.

If students are unable to continue with lessons, a named person will be contacted to collect the student and take him/her home. In no circumstances should students make their own arrangements to go home.

Please note: – the School is not allowed to give aspirin or paracetamol to students.

We would appreciate the co-operation of parent/carers in the following ways:-

  • If your child is feeling unwell in the morning or at lunchtimes please keep him/her at home and consult your own GP if necessary.
  • A telephone call to school on the first day of absence, followed by an absence note on return, would help the school monitor your child’s attendance more closely.
  • If it is essential that your child takes any form of medication during the school day, please obtain a 'Medicine Agreement Form' from Student Registry, authorising a First Aider to administer your child's medicine.  Please label the container clearly with the child's name and send to Student Registry.  The medicine must be in the packaging that is was prescribed in.
  • In the event of sickness, minor accidents etc, a qualified First Aider will administer first aid and if necessary, telephone and request that the child is taken home. Parent/carers will be asked to indicate how they can be contacted during school hours. It is essential that this information is kept up to date and school is informed of any changes of address and contact telephone numbers.
  • In the event of a serious injury and a child has to be taken to hospital, parents/carers will be contacted to either accompany their child in an ambulance, or to meet them at an identified A & E department.
