GETTING TO SCHOOL

LOCATION

Prince Henry's is situated just north of the River Wharfe from the town centre. Approaching by road or on foot, make for Manor Square. Keep the Manor House (originally the home of the Grammar School) on your left and follow the main road round the narrow left hand bend then continue past the Police Station (on your left) and across the river bridge, go straight on up the hill towards Wharfedale General Hospital and you will see the main entrance to the school on your right.

For information on School Buses, timetables, routes and passes, please contact Education Transport on 0113 3481122 or educationtransport@wypte.gov.uk

Alternatively, please visit www.generationm.co.uk

Students are issued either with a SCHOOL CARD, enabling them, where necessary, to travel to and from school on a scheduled service bus, or with a BOARDING CARD. The Boarding Card applies to a particular vehicle and cannot be used on other routes. In these cases, students who wish to stay behind for an extra-curricular activity collect, from the school office at 3pm, a token which they present to the driver with their boarding card.

Any persistent problem of transport should be brought to the attention of the Deputy Headteacher. Metro's Educational Transport section (0113 247 5501) and First Leeds Schools’ Liaison Office (0113 381 6510) are always keen to co-operate in solving problems.

TRAFFIC

Both entrances are used by vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, so it helps to be aware of the users and to exercise caution.

PEDESTRIANS

Pedestrians must not use the drive but should use the steps and footpath from Farnley Lane. They should cross the road (when it is safe) only at right angles, by the shortest route. Take care at the end of school when large numbers of students are trying to cross the road.

CYCLISTS

Cyclists must have their parent/carers' permission, keep their machines in road worthy condition, lock them securely and never leave on them parts that can be easily removed. It is also a good idea to record on paper full details of the frame, wheels and equipment, including serial numbers, and to have the frame post-coded. Cycles should be insured under the parents' home policy. Between 8am and 5pm. cyclists must, in the interests of safety, dismount at the gate and refrain from riding in the grounds. They are expected to wear protective helmets and (as regular cycle users) to register with Mr Dean, the Deputy Headteacher.

SIXTH FORMERS' VEHICLES

Sixth formers wishing to use motorcycles or cars should first pass the appropriate test and then consult the Head of Sixth Form in order to arrange for the issue of a Permit. Passengers should not normally be carried unless parent/carers have agreed. All traffic must observe the speed limits and warning signs.

PARENT/CARERS' CARS

Space immediately round the buildings (from both entrances) is too tight to allow for parent/carers to draw into the grounds to drop off or pick up students. The volume of human and motorised traffic through the gates makes it hazardous even to park close to the entrances. At the Farnley Lane end of the site the safest pick-up spots are on Wharfemeadows and Prince Henry's Road. (There are yellow hazard lines preventing parking close to the school on Farnley Lane). At the Newall end there is space just above the entrance. Whilst there is limited parking space in the Newall car park for parent/carers coming into school, you are asked kindly to avoid impeding the arrival and departure of school buses, whose turning circle is always tight. Parking is available at Newall for evening events.

It is always possible to arrange for an invalid student to be dropped off or picked up at the school door.
