CAREERS EDUCATION

 

To help you plan your future; the School will provide the following information, activities, events and help this year.

A lot of these will take place in PSE/tutor time but remember, all Teachers can help, and support is available from a Connexions Personal Adviser, Careers Adviser and other agencies.

YEAR 9

  • A Student Planner, to help you record all the activities and to store information.
  • A relevant and organised Careers Programme as part of the PSE lessons including Viewpoint and Kudos interactive questionnaires, which look at option choices and how they link with careers.
  • Your own Radio 1 ‘Which Way Now’ booklet to give you information about the subject options, opportunities and careers.
  • A School ‘Option Choice’ booklet so that you and your Parents can discuss your future together.
  • A Parents’ Evening where you and your Parents can meet your Teachers and Careers Adviser to help you find out about the subjects on offer in Years 10/11 and their links with careers.
  • A Careers/Connexions Resource Centre - open lunchtimes and after School - where you can access books, free leaflets, videos and computer programmes. You will be shown how to use this in PSE lessons. A Personal Adviser is available in the Resource Centre for independent impartial advice at all times.

YEAR 10

  • A Student Planner, with a section to help you with your career plans.
  • Work on relevant sections to enable the production of Interim Action Plans and Personal statements.
  • JIG-CAL Job Ideas and Career Plans programme, to give you ideas about careers which might suit you.
  • Research opportunities to find out more about relevant occupations.
  • Opportunity to go on Work Experience for two weeks, with preliminary work on Health, Safety and Equal Opportunities.
  • A Parents’ Evening where you and your Parents can meet your teachers and you can get careers advice from a Careers Adviser.
  • A Careers/Connexions Resource Centre - open lunchtimes and after School - where you can access books, free leaflets, videos and computer programmes. You will be shown how to use this in PSE lessons. A Personal Adviser is available in the Resource Centre for independent impartial advice at all times.
  • Careers Advice - ‘drop in’ times in the Connexions Resource Centre (formerly the Careers area).
