SCHOOL UNIFORM

Prince Henry’s Grammar School is one of the broad majority of English schools where it is agreed policy that students (in our case below the 6th form) wear school uniform.  Our uniform is designed to be smart, practical and affordable and to identify students with the school.  The school uniform requirements and list of permitted jewellery are prominently displayed in the Student Planner.

In cases of financial difficulty a grant towards the cost of uniform may be available.  Any parent/carers who think they may be entitled to such assistance are asked to contact the Leeds Benefit Service on 0113 247 7247.  You should also contact this number to obtain advice regarding the provision of welfare benefits i.e. free school meals, maintenance grants or queries regarding work permits, bus passes and transport.

Sixth Form Dress Code

Post-16 students at Prince Henry’s are reminded that they have chosen to continue their studies at an 11-18 school. In making this choice, they must recognize their responsibility in acting as positive role models at all times, including in the area of school dress.

In order to ensure that our dress code is easily understood, we have outlined below the guidelines within which all post-16 students are expected to operate:

  • No denim or imitation denim
  • No head garments (except those worn for recognized religious or cultural reasons)
  • A maximum on one earring or stud in each ear to be worn in the lobe
  • No facial or visible body piercings
  • No visible tattoos
  • No outdoor wear such as coats, hats and scarves must be worn in the building
  • No Sleeveless tops

Clothing and appearance should not reflect the extremes of youth culture and should be appropriate at all times. Where such extremes are evident or judged to be inappropriate for an 11-18 school setting, the Senior Tutor, Head of Sixth Form and Headteacher reserve the right to refuse admission to the premises.

Students not conforming to correct standards of uniform shall be isolated from other students. Where an explanatory note is provided by parents, they shall be allowed to work in the Library/NET Centre for up to two days. After this time, or where there is no parental explanation, students shall work in the Isolation Room until the infringement is rectified. A doctor’s note must be provided where, for medical reasons, students cannot wear school shoes.
