A LEVEL RESULTS A GREAT SUCCESS

The average point score per entry (34.2) remains high and indications are that overall student progress is even better than in previous years. This high attainment is evident in the more academic subjects such as the Sciences, Maths and English as well as in vocational subjects such as Business and Health and Social Care. This is the third phase of the introduction of new A level exams, designed to be more rigorous. Teachers at Prince Henry’s have worked particularly hard to prepare students to face the additional challenge of new courses and examination structures and teachers are rightly proud of how well our students have performed.
There are some amazing individual successes across the full range of academic achievement: At the top end a number of students gained straight A or A* grades. Jack Auchterlounie achieved an A* in each of his four subjects (Maths, Physics, Further Maths and Spanish), as did Mark O’Halloran (A* in Computer Studies, Maths, Physics and Further Maths). Harry Kingston was awarded four A levels at A*, A*, A* and A (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths) and he will go on to study Industrial Chemistry at Durham. Anna Needham achieved A*, A*, A, B (Photography, Fine Art, RS and Maths) and will take up her place at Art Foundation Course. Emily Wallis secured a place to study Modern and Medieval Languages at Magdalene College, Cambridge, having achieved A*, A*, A (Spanish, English Language, German).
Holly Briggs, Lucy Finney, Thomas Habin, Harriet Jeffery and Mary Martin all achieved A*, A, A grades. Prince Henry’s Rugby Captain, Sam Dickinson, followed the school’s Excellence in Sport and Education Programme (ESEP). He achieved an A in his A level PE and moved from county trials to England trials during his time on the ESEP programme.
There were top achievers in our vocational programmes too: Oliver Shakeshaft achieved Distinction* in Btec Business. Harsimran Panesar, Jasper Tomlinson, Joshua Cape, Morgan Catchpole, Aisha Kwiatkowska all secured Distinctions in this subject. Roshni Panesar, Sana Lone and Bethany Connell secured Distinctions in Btec Health and Social Care.
