SMART ENERGY

Members of our Geoscience Club have been investigating the potential for geothermal energy around the school using programmable temperature loggers buried around the school grounds.

Entitled ‘Can the heat beneath our feet heat up our school?’, the project aims to identify the best hypothetical location for a ground source heat pump and calculate how much energy it would provide the school. The research has been made possible thanks to a Royal Society Partnership Grant to purchase equipment and work with academics at the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds. Area Leader for Geography Dr Tom Watts said “The project is led by the Geography team at Prince Henry’s but uses a multi-disciplinary approach to build cross curricular links with STEM subjects.”
