Careers Rationale & Policy

The Government’s careers strategy set out a long-term plan to build a world-class careers system that will help young people and adults choose the career that is right for them. This statutory guidance has been updated to expand on the aims set out in the strategy to make sure that all young people in secondary school gain access to a programme of advice and guidance that is stable, structured and delivered by individuals with the right skills and experience.  Further detail can be found in their publications below, which have been used as a foundation on which we have built our provision.

Skills for Jobs: Lifelong Learning for Opportunity and Growth (January 2021)

Careers guidance and access for education (October 2018)

Career strategy: making the most of everyone’s skills and talents (December 2017)

At Prince Henry’s Grammar School, we use the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s Benchmarks to develop and improve our careers provision and ensure we fulfil our legal duty by providing independent careers guidance, as well as access to a range of other providers, allowing students to develop their understanding of technical qualifications and apprenticeships.

Prince Henry's is also part of the West Yorkshire Careers hub and, therefore, works with a cluster of schools to share good practice and develop provision. We also work with a range of external providers and local employers to enrich our carers programme.
