African Drumming (Beginners)

Tutor: Alison Lyon. Tuesday 7 - 9pm.

If you’ve got a heart beat you’ve got rhythm! Learn to tap your natural human potential with Drums Agogo – hand-drum tuition on genuine African instruments. Class may merge to Monday later in the year, due to numbers and experience. Drum hire of £5 per term included.

Art History: Great Paintings (Beginners)

Tutor: Jennie Kiff. Wednesday 7 - 9 pm.

Have fun while learning about Art History! Each class looks at one painting in detail and then places it into a wider cultural and artistic context. The paintings present a broad range of different styles, periods, cultures and continents.

Cake Decorating (Beginners & Improvers)

Tutor: Roslyn Scott. Wednesday 7 - 9pm.

Designed to inspire confidence in basic sugarcraft techniques and develop new skills and challenge the more able. From cupcakes to celebration cakes - wow your friends with stunning edible art! Basic equipment and materials needed, details given during the first evening.

Dru Yoga (Beginners & Improvers)

Tutor: Chrissy Chelinski. Monday 7.30pm - 9pm.

A unique, graceful and potent form of yoga, based on flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation. Improve strength and flexibility, create core stability and your whole being will feel deeply relaxed and rejuvenated. Bring a large towel/rug/mat.

Film (Beginners)

Tutor: Maria Seijo-Richart. Wednesday 7 - 9pm (10 weeks).

Learn the theory of film from plots to pre-production, settings to sound and pitching to post-production. Dip into the history and then work together to produce a mini-short in the classroom. Enjoy a screening to finish the course. For absolute beginners, no experience needed.

Floristry and Flower Arranging (Beginners & Improvers)

Tutor: Julia Mitchinson. Thursday 7 - 9pm.

Learn all aspects of everyday and wedding floristry, as well as more traditional flower arranging and creative seasonal pieces. No experience necessary. Students may supply their own flowers and sundries; or there is an option for these to be purchased from the teacher, at cost, on the day. (No more than £10 per week.)

Fly Tying (Beginners & Improvers)

Tutor: Stephen Cheetham (STANIC). Wednesday 7 - 9pm (20 weeks)

Learn how to tie your own ‘flies’ with expert tuition to help you to get started in this delicate skill. Spring Term develops skills for more complicated flies. Materials and equipment will be available for you to purchase.

Whatever style you want to play - rock, jazz, folk, blues - the basics are the same. Learn tuning, rhythm styles, finger pick and plectrum techniques, basic chord structure, progressions, theory and performance skills. Group lessons.

Improv (Beginners)

Improv is a great way to unlock creativity and increase spontaneity. You will learn step by step how to do it, so you don’t have to worry about how funny or imaginative you are – you’ll be amazed at what you come up with. You’ll be playing improv games and creating stories together in a supportive environment, and there’s always lots of laughter.

Introduction to Bee Keeping (Beginners)

Tutor: Vas Koritsas. Monday 7 - 9pm (10 weeks).

Learn to keep bees from the basics of where to site your hive and how to fill it with bees to enjoying the finished products. Includes practical sessions and classroom based lessons. Beekeeper suit required and practical sessions undertaken at own risk. Health and Safety form to be signed at first session.

Introduction to Meditation (Beginners)

Tutor: Maxine Amos. Wednesday 7 - 9pm (10 weeks).

Want to learn more about meditation and mindfulness but don't know where to start? This is a beginner’s class, designed to teach the basics.  Learn how to relax the mind, increase concentration and feel more energized and refreshed. Mindful meditation can provide tools for dealing with stress and anxiety, help to overcome negative states of mind such as anger and jealousy and cultivate positive thoughts and increase self-esteem.  Essentially practical but with the opportunity to discuss other stress management techniques.

Patchwork, Quilting and Applique (Beginners)

Tutor: Margaret Wightman. Monday 7 - 9pm.

Learn a variety of techniques. Create a number of different blocks which will enable you to make a throw, quilt, or quillow (a throw that folds into a cushion) over 30 weeks. Most work can be hand sewn. Sewing machine needed to put blocks together.

Patchwork, Quilting and Applique (Improvers)

Tutor: Margaret Wightman. Workshop A Tuesday, Workshop B Wednesday (enrol for one workshop only). 7 - 9pm.

Progression from the beginners Patchwork class. Run on a workshop basis, enjoy the opportunity to learn more advanced techniques to make advanced blocks for throws/quilts. In Autumn, make Christmas tree decorations and cards using felt and/or embroidery techniques and ideas for Advent calendars/ Christmas presents explored. Sewing machine needed to put blocks together.

Sewing for Fun (Beginners)

Tutor: Emma Garry. Tuesday 7 - 9pm.

Learn to sew and follow patterns by making 3 simple but useful Emma Garry patterns: a Bucket bag; a pair of pyjama bottoms; a Reversible Sun Hat. You will learn useful techniques and boost your confidence. Suitable for beginners. 3 patterns per term at £7 each. Sewing machine required. Fabric available for you to buy or bring your own.

Sewing - Dressmaking for Fun (Improvers)

Tutor: Emma Garry. Wednesday 7 - 9pm.

Progressing from beginners and last year’s Wednesday class, for those with more experience. Learning dressmaking basics. If unsure of your level contact Emma on 01943 435825. Emma Garry pattern £7 (sizes 8 to 18). Sewing machine required. Fabric available to buy or bring your own.

Write a Collection of Poetry in a Year (Beginners & Improvers)

Tutor: Maria Stephenson. Monday 7 - 9pm.

Would you like to see your poems in print?  Throughout this course you will be supported to produce a themed poetry collection using a variety of form and inspirations.  You will be shown how to edit and prepare your work for publication.

This exciting new course will support you in producing a collection of short stories in a variety of genres, from crime to sci-fi and many more.  You will be shown how to edit and how to get your work published.

Write a Novel in a Year (Beginners & Improvers)

Tutor: Maria Stephenson. Thursday 7 - 9pm.

Have you got a book in you?  This course will help to develop a 'toolbox' of writing skills and encourage a daily writing habit. You will be supported to generate your novel idea then see it through from planning to publication.
