Interview with PC Hart, Safer Schools Police Officer

PC Hart, has been visiting lessons around school to give all our students the opportunity to hear from him about his role, how he can help students and answer any questions they may have. By the end of the year, we would anticipate all students having had contact with him. As we're giving more students the opportunity to get to know him, we thought we'd use this term's Inside Story to introduce parents/carers and the wider school community to PC Hart. We hope you enjoy reading this interview that was conducted with him (please note, there was no need to read him his rights and no lawyers were present ...).

Who are you?

PC Jordan Hart – Serving as a Police Officer with West Yorkshire Police for the past 9 years.

What is your job title?

Safer Schools Police Officer.

So, are you an actual Police Officer?

Contrary to belief, I am an actual police officer. I worked on response for 5 years before moving across to the Safer Schools role.

What does being a Safer Schools officer involve?

Working closely with schools, pupils (students at Prince Henry's!) and staff to help prevent crime, promote safeguarding and build positive relationships between young people and the police.

We also deliver educational inputs, deal with incidents involving students and help to identify and support vulnerable children/families.

More broadly, we work with partner agencies to try and prevent offending.

Our role is ultimately there to help keep young people safe.

You are only at Prince Henry's one day a week, what do you do on the other days?

I work at 3 other schools in addition to Prince Henry's – operating in the same way as explained above.

So, how does working in other schools help support you in your role at Prince Henry's?

Working in schools across the city helps me develop a knowledge of the local area and any ongoing trends/issues. This can be useful as I can keep school staff updated on matters or trends that might impact them at Prince Henry's (even if they don't currently).

This gathering and sharing intelligence means we can do proactive work with students early to prevent their involvement.

When in school, how do you work with the staff and students at Prince Henry's?

Catching up with key safeguarding members of staff regarding any identified incidents/students.

Holding 1–1 conversations with students – covering specific topics dependent on the need.

Delivering sessions on general trends identified by West Yorkshire Police.

Speaking to students more widely about my role and taking questions from them.

Meeting with parents and students to discuss incidents and actions taken.

Occasionally assisting with monitoring of vehicle drop off/ pick-ups before and after school to ensure these run smoothly and safely.

If a parent/carer or student wants to contact you, how can they do that?

They can simply contact their child's Year Manager, who will then pass the information/contact details across to me.

Away from school do you have any hobbies or interests?

Yes, I like to spend time with my son, walk my dog, watch Leeds United and keep fit.

PC Hart attends Prince Henry's one day a week. From November 2026, this will be a Tuesday. Should you wish to contact him, please contact your child's Year Manager, and they will put you in touch.
