Celebration Evening 2025

Magenta Bareham, Kerr Scholar

Students from across the years at Prince Henry’s were rewarded for their achievements in all areas at the annual Prince Henry's Celebration Evening at Otley Common. Over 500 students, invited guests, proud parents and carers and staff enjoyed the experience, as Guest Speaker and ex-student, Katherine Hannah, sports journalist for BBC Radio Leeds, handed out awards.

In her speech, Katherine spoke about her time at Prince Henry’s, and her career since then, talking about the importance of trying to find a job you love. She urged students to go out and use their initiative to gain experience which would help them achieve this.

The prestigious Kerr Scholarship, awarded to the student with the best A Level results, was received by Magenta Bareham. Tom Ng was awarded the Foundation Governors Leavers exhibition for Outstanding Performance at A Level.

The Walter Robinson Award for Top Performance at GCSE was won by Hannah Young, who achieved nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8 in her GCSEs. Florence Brown, Alexandra Henry, Ollie Holder, Millie Morris-Bennett, Holly Nichells, Evie Scholefield, Amelie Tinslay, Emma Walters and Jacob Wright were all rewarded for Exceptional Performance in their GCSE Examinations.

Awards are given to students for attainment and progress, but also for excelling in other areas which are also central to the ethos at the school, such as citizenship and caring for others. As well as last year’s GCSE and A Level students, students from all years are recognised for their contribution to school, progress and achievements.

Sam Petrie who, with Lilly Rollinson, was awarded for service to school as Head Student, also won the Jack Hurst Memorial Award for Support for Fellow Students. The Otley Rotary Club Prize for Service to the School and Community went to Matty Young. Hermione Clarke won the Language College Prize for Global Citizenship and Freya Hill the Peter Fox Memorial Shield for Service to the Sixth Form.

Younger students were also recognised for their service, attitude to learning, progress and academic achievements.

As well as speeches from Headteacher Sally Bishop and Katherine Hannah, the packed event also heard a review of the year from current Head Students Maisey Bellwood and Sophie Holmes.

Headteacher Sally Bishop said

“As we look back at the last academic year at Prince Henry’s Grammar School, it has been another action-packed one in which students and staff really have flourished in a variety of different ways.  This brings us much to celebrate as a school as well as of course the individual achievements which are highlighted as part of Celebration Evening.   It is incredibly difficult to select students for these stand-out awards as there are so many deserving recipients.  We are proud to promote inclusion at all levels to ensure that all can be recognised for excellence whether that is through effort, resilience, academic achievement, community involvement or by displaying our school values. There is no doubt that our vision to become internationally recognised as an exceptional school with a culture of respect, where we can all flourish and achieve is central to how we approach life at Prince Henry’s.  Our students and staff really are exceptional and we are proud of each and every one of them.”

As well as the Awards themselves, guests were treated to performances from students Emma Walters and Mathilda Marchaland.
