Grease was the Word!

This year’s school production Grease, played to more than 1200 people, with 4 evening shows and the Year 6 primary school transition matinee. Every aspect of the production had students involved – from the talented cast and show band, to those working backstage, designing and operating the lighting and helping with sound, make up and costumes.

Known to many from the film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Grease tell the story of how, after a whirlwind summer romance, leather-clad greaser Danny and girl-next-door Sandy are unexpectedly reunited when she transfers to Rydell High for senior year. But can they survive the trials and tribulations of teenage life and find true love once more? The phenomenal score bursts with hits including Summer NightsGreased Lightnin’, Hopelessly Devoted to You and You’re the One That I Want.

The packed audiences were hugely impressed.

“My daughter and I came to see Grease last night. We just wanted say what a fab night we had. What a wonderful performance from all those that took part on stage and off stage including all the musicians, technical teams etc. I wanted to also say a big thank you to all the staff who pulled it all together or helped in any way. Your time, effort and dedication to give all the participating students an opportunity to be in a such a brilliant theatre production does not go unrecognised. It was fabulous!”

“I just wanted to say thankyou for putting on such a fantastic performance of Grease last night! The performers were exceptional, from the actors to the band and singers and the back stage crew, it was evident how much went into creating it. My husband and I drove home saying how lucky we are that our girls get to go to a school that produces such professional shows.”

“Fantastic performances by all the cast and I do appreciate all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. What a talented bunch of kids and a real credit to Prince Henry’s.
Well done to all involved, it was very uplifting!”

“I just wanted to say that we had a brilliant evening and were in awe of the talent of all of the students - you can tell that it is a real team effort to pull together a production so fabulous. Also, the dedication and commitment of the staff involved to make it happen is beyond belief.”

“What was particularly nice was seeing how much everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves so well done to all concerned, it looked like hundreds of them!”

Headteacher Sally Bishop said “Every year the students at Prince Henry’s amaze us with the talent they display in every area and this year was electrifying! With over 150 students involved alongside many of our staff, and parents and carers donating their professional skills, this really was a whole school production. I have been involved in many school productions in my career, and the sheer standard of performance really is astonishing. We pride ourselves on helping every child to flourish at Prince Henry’s and it was very touching to hear the older students’ thank you speeches congratulating the younger students for getting involved and showing how the company valued the input of both staff and their fellow students in creating this very special evening.”

The book, music, and lyrics for Grease are by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey . "Hopelessly Devoted to You”, "You're The One That I Want”, “Sandy” and "Grease" used by arrangement with Robert Stigwood.
