Rugby teams triumph in 4 Yorkshire Cup Finals

Our four talented boys' rugby teams won their Yorkshire Cup Finals - an amazing achievement!
The scores were:
U12 - PHGS 35 Harrogate GS 0
U13 - PHGS 25 Kings Ponty 5
U16 - PHGS 15 Ripon GS 12
U18 - PHGS 22 Harrogate GS 3
The U12 rugby team competed in their first ever Yorkshire cup final at West Park RUFC against Harrogate Grammar School. Straight from the off they put HGS under pressure and scored with their first attack. HGS put up strong resistance but PHGS attacking ball playing rugby continued to dazzle throughout the first half and into the second half with Prince Henry’s scoring a further 6 tries to make it 35-0 to the boys in blue. Strong defence ensured HGS didn't manage to get over Prince Henry’s try line and at the final whistle the boys hugged in jubilation at securing their first trophy for Prince Henry’s. Special mention to Henry Houldsworth who was man of the match with scoring 4 of 7 tries.
The U13s produced a disciplined and well-organised performance against a strong King’s School Pontefract side who beat them comfortably last season. The team showed excellent structure and commitment throughout, controlling large periods of the game against a direct and physical opposition. Joel Owen orchestrated the performance superbly from start to finish and was a deserved Player of the Match for his leadership and game management.
The U16s showed great character to battle back from behind and secure a 15–12 victory over a strong Ripon Grammar School side. Tries from Fin Guzdek, Rufus Cook and captain Will Owen proved enough to see them home in a closely contested match. Player of the Match went to Ashton Wadsworth for an outstanding all-action performance across the pitch.
The 1st XV produced arguably their finest performance of the season to claim the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment Shield. They ran out 23–3 winners against a highly regarded Harrogate Grammar side in the showcase event of Yorkshire Schools Rugby. A monumental defensive effort set the tone for the success and tries from Ellis Hogg in the first half and Ted Sneath in the second kept the scoreboard moving. Ben Stephens was flawless from the tee, adding two conversions and three penalties to keep Harrogate at arm’s length. A fitting performance to bring the boys’ school rugby careers to a memorable close.
Deputy PE Faculty Leader Dean Hyam said "Rugby weekends simply don’t get much better than that. 4 cup finals and 4 wins for Prince Henry’s. Absolutely phenomenal. Very proud of all the players and coaches involved. U12, U13, U16 & U18 Yorkshire Cup Champions!!!"
Action shot: Ellis Hart, Year 11.
