5. Agreements and Consents
5.1 PHGS Charter for Parents
Parents have a right to expect the school to:
- have due regard for their child's safety and welfare.
- keep them informed about his/her academic progress and any behaviour problems.
- respond to their concerns and enquiries.
- provide effective teaching in a disciplined environment.
- set regular and appropriate home learning.
- deal fairly and consistently with all students.
- praise and reward students for positive attitudes and behaviour.
Parents have a responsibility to:
- ensure that their child attends school.
- provide explanations for absence before 8.30am every day.
- ensure that the child possesses the required items of school uniform and equipment.
- check home learning information on Arbor regularly and satisfy themselves that tasks are being completed on time and to the best of the child's ability.
- check behaviour data on Arbor regularly to ensure they are aware of their child's behaviour profile, and support the school's disciplinary approach.
- ensure their child understand how to behave in a safe and sensible manner when travelling to and from school, including public transport.
- communicate respectfully with staff at all times.
5.2 Red Kite Alliance Positive Communications Charter
As a group of over 50 schools across the region, we are committed to listening and engaging positively with our wider community for the benefit of the young people in our care.
As a Red Kite Alliance school, we follow these principles when responding to any issues raised by parents and carers or other members of the wider community:
-
To maintain effective working relationships with our community, we ask that all dialogue (both written and verbal) is considerate and respectful.
We understand that some concerns may cause a negative emotional response. We will handle these situations with respect, support and compassion. However, we reserve the right to end any interactions that are abusive or threatening.
-
We promise to respond to all complaints within three working days (during term time only).
This response should confirm that your concern has been received and may include a plan to discuss your concern at a scheduled meeting. Please avoid raising concerns via social media as this can complicate matters and make it harder for the school to respond effectively.
-
Your concern will be co-ordinated by the most appropriate, available member of staff.
This may not be the specific person for whom you have asked.
-
Meetings with staff will only take place when an appointment has been scheduled.
All our staff have responsibilities throughout the school day and are not available on demand.
-
School level decisions are made in the best interests of all children and young people.
Some concerns raised will only require minimal discussion as they are decisions that all schools are reasonably and lawfully allowed to make without parent or carer approval.
-
Complaints will be managed in line with our Complaints Policy
This policy explains the step-by-step complaints process and a copy is available on the Collaborative Learning Trust website. When a complaint has been through all our levels of response, that signals the end of the process as far as the school is concerned. We ask that our community respect this.
These broad principles have been agreed by Red Kite Alliance Headteachers and Principals.

5.3 Consent for Use of Students' Images and Videos
Consent for use of students' images and videos will be collected through Arbor from September.
5.4 Extra-Curricular Consent
All our PE consents and information are run through the Squad in Touch app. Other consents are organised by the appropriate faculty when needed.
5.5 Acceptable use of the school's ICT facilities and internet
Agreement for students:
When I use the school’s ICT facilities (like computers and equipment) and go on the internet in school, I will not:
- Use them without asking a teacher first
- Use them to break school rules
- Attempt to access any inappropriate websites
- Go on any social networking sites (unless my teacher said I could as part of a lesson)
- Use chat rooms
- Open any attachments in emails, or click any links in emails, without checking with a teacher first
- Use unkind or rude language when talking to other people online or in emails
- Send any photos, videos or livestreams of people (including me) who aren’t wearing all of their clothes
- Share my password with others or log in using someone else’s name or password
- Bully other people
- Use artificial intelligence (AI) to create images or write for me, and then submit it as my own work
- Intentionally damage school hardware property and/or devices
I understand that the school will check the websites I visit and how I use the school’s computers and equipment. I understand that all internet usage on school owned devices (e.g. iPads) is filtered, monitored and reported, regardless of it taking place inside or outside of school premises. This is so that the school can help keep me safe and make sure I’m following the rules.
I will tell a teacher or a member of staff I know immediately if I find anything on a school computer or online that upsets me, or that I know is mean or wrong.
I will always be responsible when I use the school’s ICT systems and internet.
I will store my digital work on my school OneDrive account, unless directed to do otherwise be school staff.
I understand that the school can discipline me if I do certain unacceptable things online, even if I’m not in school when I do them.
