Kate White MP Visits Prince Henry’s
Local MP Katie White visited Prince Henry’s Grammar School in Otley for a working lunch with the Head Students, Eco-mittee and Headteacher Sally Bishop. While she was visiting she also had time for a short tour of the school.
Students spoke about the environmental issues which concern them and Eco-mittee also explained about their campaign to encourage students to travel actively to school, called Feet First. The students also talked about how they felt a responsibility to protect the planet. Katie White reassured them that she felt the responsibility should fall on adults first. She said that she liked meeting and working with young people as they have so many great ideas, and believe that they can change things.
Head Students Lily Robinson and Sam Petrie talked about student leadership in the school, gathering student voice, and the School Council.
Katie White, MP sad "It is always so inspiring hearing young people so passionate about the bigger issues we face and the impact they have."
Prince Henry’s Eco-mittee have achieved the Eco-Schools Award with distinction and the Feet First campaign led the the school to be awarded Best Secondary School in Leeds in the Modeshift Stars Active Travel Awards, both for two years in a row.
